Logo - neat and balanced, serif font easy to read, easy to recognize from a distance, C.F.K. dog-tag gives the logo a solid base. It appears that you are not going to saturate the colour but (stipple) with veering degrees of solidity it gives the logo more interest. Helmet like skull with wings - I think warrior
3 maple leaves - Canadian - I assume 3 to balance the design?I also like that the logo is contained - keeps other type / info from encroaching.

Can this logo be printed on most surfaces, can it be embroidered onto a jacket - looks like it could.
hmmm. . . might be tricky reproducing *yellow* on letter head or T's and hoodies

- why yellow? will the logo always have a black background?
Is CFK corp colour yellow and black?
If so then you might want to consider adding a black background shield so that the logo can be reproduced with accuracy every time.
If the logo stands alone (printed on various background colours) then you may want to rethink yellow. Yellow washes out on grey, looks orange on red, looks green on blue ya get my drift.

Just my thoughts
Sandra

Ummm... I couldn't have said it any better Sandra. Sounds like you have had experience with design.

I like the font and colour.. just not a fan of the skull with wings...kind of 'skateboardish'

This was submitted by a fellow CFK'er,who created it during free time!!!

GREAT JOB!!

My 2 cents ... Its great!

Sandra, you have some good points here, although I too would stay away from yellow and lean towards gold on black. I think it would give it more punch.

Sandra said...

Andrew would you consider gold, black background?
Great job CFKer designer!

The imagery is very militaristic. Marines ("semper fi!") or Battlestar Galactica comes to mind, I like it.

The dog tags are redundant with the title directly above the skull. Perhaps reserve the dog tags for small variants of the logo, like sew-on patches.

Concerning the yellow, you could add a small black border around the edge any time the background is not black. That would allow you to provide shirts and/or logos in all colors of the rainbow.

More important than the rest, is the logo available in a vector format so that it will scale nicely?

......kind of 'skateboardish'

hahaha I have no idea about skateboardish looks!

The skull with wings motif has also long been used in the Military.

The meaning of the winged skull now emphasis a spirit transitioning as opposed to death.
http://www.pacificgrids.com/skull/winged-skull-article.htm

I do know that skull and wings have appeared on helmets to show strength, fearlessness, courage and dominance.
North Santa Curz crossfit uses a skull and wings
It is used a lot.

PW said...

I do like the logo, but agree that the skull and wings is waay over used as a logo for CF.

But what could we use instead???

PW said...

Perhaps it could incorporate the "alternate" brand name idea's Andrew?

Unknown said...

What about the other logo by Eric??? It's by far the best...

I think he did a really good job with the helmet and wings, but I think for a t-shirt it would be a bit too much. I know people were talking more aggressive and I like that part, but it's a bit too military for me... I like the wings and the canada motif, but the helmet is too much. Unless, of course, we start wearing helmets in crossfit. Then I'm okay with it:).

Some people should be required to wear a helmet to do CrossFit ... not saying who but, hahaha

Helmet hu Andrew. . . my head is about the only thing that doesn't hurt after Crossfit. . . maybe we should go with a Tylenol bottle like logo instead, be fitting for some of us! "Tough on pain. . . and after one of AB's WOD. . . you need it!!!!!" hee hee

Here's a shorter version of the Google Docs link. I had a pain copy/pasting it correctly. http://tinyurl.com/25sdhgp

I like the logos in the Google Doc that incorporate equipment or movements, like the kettlebells, bars, rings, and snatch. Nice and iconic.

I have to agree the helmet and wings is very militaryish. Good job considering someone did this one there spare time. Andrew don't rush into this! Your logo will be on everything and not to mention everywhere! I seen two sweaters and a green shirt on a chick with a busted lip at a ball tourny this weekend. This will be what people will think of when they talk about your gym.

Eric said...

Thanks for the feedback guys! Considering there was very little given in the way of direction, I wanted to at least submit a concept. Your comments are very helpful in steering the design in a direction that most people should be happy with, and I'll try to incorporate your advice in the next few I can whip up.

Haha I think the chick is me! I guess I better get some different shirts!

Hi this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use
WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I'm starting a blog soon but have no coding skills so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

Hey there! Quick question that's entirely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from my iphone4. I'm trying to find a theme or plugin that
might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share.
Appreciate it!

Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it's very hard to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you have done a excellent job with this. In addition, the blog loads very fast for me on Safari. Exceptional Blog!

I am new to developing web sites and I was wanting
to know if having your website title relevant to your articles and
other content really that vital? I see your title, "Blogger: CrossFit Kingston " does seem to be spot on with what your blog is about but yet, I prefer to keep my title less content descriptive and based more around
site branding. Would you think this is a good idea or bad idea?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

calls herself. Cranberry studios developed this sequel while publisher Anaconda brings it to

I've been browsing on-line greater than three hours as of late, yet I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is lovely price enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the web will be much more helpful than ever before.
